Letter to the Editor: It’s time to respond

There are many things that you can be apathetic about, but white supremacists vandalizing cars with their hateful flyers is not one of them.

Tuesday marked the fourth time on our campus that our students have been invited to join a white supremacist organization. And what has been the response? A weak email from the university, a link to the public safety website, and vast, deafening silence from the student body.

There have been no protests, no social media backlash and no clear student-led sign that white supremacy and racism are not welcome on this campus.

At the very minimum, we, the students, need to show that we care about this issue and are dedicated to making this university an inclusive place for all. Our silence implies our approval of this hateful rhetoric.

Now is not the time for apathy. Now is the time to stand up for our peers, our values and our campus. Now is the time to say that the world within our reach will not be this way.
