My friends think that I am a slut. I hear about it all the time. They make jokes about my sex life and always ask me different sex questions. Because I am so open about my sex life and don’t keep it locked behind closed doors, they associate that with being promiscuous. It doesn’t phase me though, I know they are joking.
Recently however they approached me with a different tone in their voice. They were concerned that I was putting myself at risk and sleeping with too many people. Automatically, I got defensive. How many sexual partners is too many?
I know the number of people I have slept with, and I find no problem with that number. Being in a place where sex is on everyone’s mind, makes it easier to find people to sleep with, and students are taking advantage of that.
Caitlyn Carey, freshmen biology major, said she believes the average number of sexual partners is around 10 to 14. It depends on the person and it doesn’t determine whether he or she is a slut or not. If you walk around flaunting and bragging about your sex life is what makes you a slut, Carey said.
“Ideally I would want a guy that I am with to have slept with no more than four people, but I know that is far fetched,” Carey said.
Sophomore criminal justice major Dru Wheeler feels a different way. She said she believes the number should stay low and if the number is more than 10 before marriage there might be a problem.
“The moment you have to start using your toes to count it starts to get a little rough,” Wheeler said.
I will consider myself a promiscuous slut when I reach the point in my sex life where I lose count of my sex partners or have to start using the calculator.
