Theatre:
USI Theatre will perform “Pippin: The Musical” at 7 p.m. April 10 to 12 and at 2 p.m. on April 13.
Evansville Civic Theatre will be hosting a free Audition Technique Workshop at 1 p.m. on April 12th.
UE’s Theatre program will perform “Little Women” by Kate Hamil at 7:30 p.m. April 24 to 26 and at 2 p.m. on the 26 and 27.
Dance:
The “India Culture Lunch” will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 2 in the Romain College of Business. Attendees will learn about Indian culture and dance from Srishti Srivastava, associate professor of computer science. There will be pizza and soft drinks available.
The World Ballet Company will perform “The Great Gatsby” at 7 p.m. April 12 at the Old National Events Plaza.
The “Yellow Brick Joel: The Tribute Concert” will be held at 8 p.m. April 26 at the Old National Events Center.
Music:
The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra will present “New World & Time for Three” at 7 p.m. on April 5 at the Victory Theatre.
Kane Brown will be performing at 7 p.m. April 10 as part of his “The High Road Tour” at the Ford Center.
Breaking Benjamin and Staind will perform at 5:45 p.m. April 30, at the Ford Center, as part of their “Awaken the Fallen Tour” featuring special guests Wage War and Lakeview.
Art:
“Unmasked: The 1935 Anti-Lynching Exhibits and Community Remembrance in Indiana” will be on display at the Evansville African American Museum until May 31. The exhibition reception and speaker symposium will be held April 18 and feature Alex Lichtenstein, James MacLeod and Matt Fields.
The “2025 Senior Seminar Art Exhibition” will be on display from March 31 to May 2 in the Kenneth P. McCutchan Art Center/Palmina F. and Stephen S. Pace Galleries. The reception will be held there from 2 to 4 p.m. on April 12. The exhibition was curated by Greg Blair, assistant professor of art and design, and features artwork from Kayla Allen, Ali Brandes, Mikayla Dietz, Ella Dornburg, Cierra Fitzgerald, Luke French, Sara Griffin, Alyssa Harlow, Coleman Hertel, Katie Holloway, Aidan Hoover, Lily Hubbard, Madison Jung, Taylor Klingler, Daniel Lechner, David Lloveras, Taylor McKannan, Brandon Moore, Jenna Norrick, Bailey Roby, Annie Teruel, Bailee Wilson and Whitley Woolsey.
The next Free Friday is April 4 at the Evansville Museum. Currently on display are “The 62nd High School Art Exhibition” until April 13, “Fugitive Moments by Kazhia Kolb” until April 20, “The Tri-State Tornado: Tragedy and Resilience” until July 6 and several works by Pablo Picasso.
“Young at Art: Annual Youth Art Exhibit” will be on display until April 18 at the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana. This annual exhibition will feature K-8 artwork made by local artists. The Artists’ Reception is noon to 1:30 p.m. on April 5.
The University of Evansville’s Krannert Gallery will be displaying “Beads??” by Rodney Myers until April 6. The exhibition features beaded tapestries.
“Toy with Me” by Ashley Banks, senior studio art and PK-12 art education major, and Payton Henn, junior visual art teaching major, will be on display April 7 to 18 in the USI Virginia Thomas Memorial Gallery, also known as the USI Student Gallery.
“Harmony and Dissonance: the 17th Annual Interdisciplinary Colloquium” will be held on April 8 in Carter Hall. It will consist of artwork, discussions and panels. For more details on the artists, presenters and the event schedule, visit the USI website.
The USI student ceramics sale is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 9 and 10 in the breezeway. In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to UC West, by the doorway facing the Liberal Arts Center.
“Encountering: Io Palmer, Pavlina Vagioni & Anna Tsouhlarakis” will remain on display until April 12 in the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art. The University of Evansville’s Melvin Peterson Gallery is displaying its “63rd Annual Undergraduate Student Art Exhibition” until April 12. Their gallery hours are Monday, Friday and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.
The registration deadline for “Digitized” is April 14. Artists can submit their artwork to the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, and accepted works will be on display from April 29 to May 23.
“The Lives of a (Modern) Building: The Edith Farnsworth House in Chicago: Architecture, Landscape, Preservation and Community” will be held at 1 p.m. on April 14 in Kleymeyer Hall. Michelangelo Sabatino, professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology and Ph.D. degree program director, and Ron Henderson, professor of landscape architecture and urbanism and director of research for the Alphawood Arboretum at Illinois Institute of Technology, will discuss their book and will be available to sign it. Books will be available for purchase.
“Future / Past / Presence: The 2025 New Harmony Contemporary Print Exchange” will open on April 19 at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art.
The “Printmaking Exchange – Collaborative Print Exchange” will be on display from April 28 to May 9 in the USI Virginia Thomas Memorial Gallery.
Film:
All events in the Friday Night in the Forum series begin at 7 p.m. and take place in Forum I of the Wright Administration building.
April 4: “Boogie Nights” (1997): Set in the 70s and 80s, the movie follows Eddie Adams (Mark Wahlberg), as he becomes a pornstar, and enters a world of crime and addiction.
April 11: “Who Wants to Kill Jessie?” (1966): This Czechoslovakian science fiction comedy follows the conflict that happens between a couple when a machine can bring dreams to life.
April 18: “Head” (1968): This satirical musical stars the American pop rock band the Monkees and multiple movies within a movie.
April 25: “Hundreds of Beavers” (2022). To win the hand of a merchant’s daughter, an applejack maker finds himself at odds with hundreds of beavers in this slapstick comedy.
Poetry:
To celebrate National Poetry Month, a reading will be held at 4:30 p.m. April 3 in Kleymeyer Hall with poets Mitchell Douglas, associate professor of English at Indiana University, and Rosalie Moffett, assistant professor of English. Afterwards, a reception will be held in the Kenneth P. McCutchan Art Center/Palmina F. and Stephen S. Pace Galleries.
Carlos Andrés Gómez will speak at 6 p.m. April 15 in the Performance Center. Gomez is a poet and the winner of the 2020 Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry, 2021 Midwest Book Award, 2021 Independent Publisher Book Award Silver Medal, 2022 IAN Book of the Year Award for Poetry and more.
“Evansville Speaks – Spoken Word Open Mic” will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 17 at the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana. The theme for the night is “Fresh Start.” The event is open to all ages, and they are open to poetry or prose, but participants are asked to fill out a form before participating. There will also be zines available.
Comedy:
APB is hosting a comedy night at 6 p.m. April 1 in Carter Hall, featuring comedian Lafayette Wright. Doors open half an hour beforehand.
“Matt Mathews: Boujee on a Budget Tour” will be held at 8 p.m. on April 6 at the Victory Theatre.
Steve Trevino will perform at 8 p.m. April 12 at the Victory Theatre as part of his “Good Life Tour.”
Miscellaneous:
“Serial Killers with Dr. Scott Bonn” will take place at 7 p.m. on April 9 at the Old National Events Plaza. Author, professor and criminologist Bonn will discuss serial killers like Dahmer, Bundy, BTK, the Son of Sam and the Long Island Serial Killer in his talk.
