Theatre
Evansville Civic Theatre will perform Once Upon a Mattress at 7:30 p.m. on Jan 17 in the auditorium of Bosse High School. This musical is a retelling of the fairytale The Princess and the Pea.
Pretty Woman: The Musical will be held Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Old National Events Plaza. The Broadway Dinner Series version of the event begins at 5:30 p.m.
Music
World I Hate, Crossfire, Low Blow and Mr. Alan will perform at 7 p.m. Jan. 10 at Damsel Brew Pub. World I Hate is a band from Milwaukee and Crossfire is a hardcore band from Indianapolis. Low Blow and Mr. Alan are Evansville-based bands.
Mac McAnally will perform at 8 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Victory Theatre. McAnally has repeatedly won the Country Music Association’s Artist of the Year award and has been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra will perform works from Beethoven and Ravel at 7 p.m. on Jan. 18 at the Victory Theatre. Parker Van Ostrand will accompany them on piano.
Art
Gem Rock will host a Winter Faire from 6 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 9 and 23. The event aims to support local artists and will feature handmade crafts, art and seasonal goods.
The opening reception for Infinite Gauge by Makenzie Goodman and Adam Stacey will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 11 at the New Harmony Gallery for Contemporary Art. Their show will remain on display until Feb. 22. It focuses on the Wabash and White rivers and the environment. Goodman is an Assistant Professor at Appalachian State University and primarily creates digital artwork. Stacey is a sculptor who is a lecturer in Art in foundations at Appalachian State University.
The Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana is assembling a show in collaboration with Urban Seed called From Scratch: An Exhibit About Food. The deadline to register for the show is Jan. 12 and the show will be open from Jan. 21 to Feb. 27.
The Evansville Museum will host a Maker Super Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 25. This free event will feature crafts, demonstrations and a presentation from local writer Rebecca Bailey.
Students can decorate masks for the Homecoming Masquerade Ball from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Fireside Lounge.
Here You Come Again, a show by John David Richardson and Emily Wiethorn, opens at the Shircliff Gallery of Art on Jan. 10. The show will remain open until its reception at noon Feb. 14. Richardson is a photographer who teaches at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. Photographer and writer Wiethorn is an Assistant Professor of Photography at Mount St. Joseph University.
Movies
“PAPRIKA” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 at AMC Evansville. This Japanese film was originally released in 2006 and directed by Satoshi Kon. This screening of it will feature a 4K restoration of the film and English subtitles.
Comedy
Sal Vulcano will perform at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Old National Events Plaza as part of his Everything is Fine tour. He is best known for his TV show Impractical Joker in which Vulcano and his co-stars attempt to embarrass each other as they compete to complete challenges.
Dusty Slay will perform at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Victory Theatre as part of his Night Shift Tour. Dusty Slay is known for his Netflix special Workin’ Man, his Tedx talk Life Is Hard But Enjoying It Is Easy and his appearances on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Miscellaneous:
Registration for Screagles Got Talent ends Jan 22. The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 7 in the Performance Center.
USI will host the Southern Indiana Dance Marathon from noon to 10 p.m. Jan. 25 in Carter Hall to raise funds and awareness for the Riley Hospital for Children. Admission is $15 and there will be music, games and free food.
