The David L. Rice Library will have a National Voter Registration Day Sept. 17.
Students can find official voter registration tools for their state by visiting the National Voter Registration web page and selecting their state of residence.
To check which state to register in, look at a state identification card or an issued driver’s license with a current residency address.
According to in.gov, college students can register to vote at the address where they live while attending school or at the address where they live while not attending school.
If the student registers with the address matching their driver’s license with their hometown address, they can request an absentee-by-mail application by contacting their county election administrator for an application, unless they choose to drive to their residency to vote.
If the student registers with the address of their current residence, they will need an Indiana Driver’s License or social security number that matches their current residency address. In addition, they will need to have lived in the precinct for at least 30 days before the election.
According to voteriders.org, Indiana requires voter IDs for first-time voters and mailed-in applications with matching records of Indiana residency. A school ID will not be accepted.
The deadline to register to vote in Indiana is Oct. 7, 29 days before Election Day. Indiana residents can visit the Indiana Voter Portal at indianavoters.in.gov to register to vote, verify their registration and find the times and locations to vote. Registration can also be done by mail or in person.
