President Ronald Rochon emailed news about the death of a student to the university community Tuesday night.

Although I cannot provide specific details about the circumstances of this death, it did occur on campus and there is no threat to our community,” said Rochon.

Rochon said family members had just been informed about the student’s death when the email was sent around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The university community is grieving, said Rochon. “I send my sincerest condolences to the family, friends, classmates, faculty and staff of this student.”

The campus community cares for each person who learns the news of this student’s death, said Rochon. He listed the Vanderburgh County Southwestern Behavioral Care at (812) 422-1100, the National Suicide Hotline at (800) 273-8255 and Public Safety at (812) 492-7777 as resources for emergency support.

Students who need nonurgent support can contact the Dean of Students Office at [email protected] or the Counseling Center at (812) 464-1867 or use this online form to schedule an appointment.

Rochon said, “My heart aches over this tragic loss.”
