Alex Mendoza, News Editor
Alexander Mendoza is a second-semester sophomore journalism major. Mendoza joined The Shield in Spring 2024 as an intern staff writer and now serves as news editor. Before joining, he was a student worker for the Multicultural Center, engaging with students in person and through the MCC’s social media platforms.
Mendoza is part of the Harolyn Torain Multicultural Leadership Scholarship under the Multicultural Center, allowing him to attend USI. He was awarded “Rookie of the Year” by The Shield at the end of the Spring 2024 semester. He interned with Merchants Capital in Carmel, Indiana, for four years before attending USI and hopes to go back this coming summer.
When he isn’t running around campus with his camera, Mendoza is either out with friends thrifting jewelry, reading manga while listening to corridos and K-pop or playing RPGs such as “Monster Hunter,” “Genshin Impact” and “Phantasy Star.” He occasionally practices guitar with his friends when they’re down.
