Fall Festival is known for the food. Four blocks of Evansville is blocked off for one week and crowded with people shuffling from booth to booth trying the many different foods. I, like everyone else, wanted to partake in the feast, but I wanted to try some of the more unique food.
Sloppy Joey
Booth: I Ate a Bug Once #72
Price: $4.00
I made sure the first thing I ate at the fall festival was the Sloppy Joey. The idea of eating kangaroo in the form of a Sloppy Joe was almost too much for me to handle. After the initial excitement, however, I quickly realized it tasted no different than a normal Sloppy Joe. It was good, but it sure wasn’t kicking.
Meat Wad Inferno
Booth: Youth Resources #124
Price: $4.00
After the first bite of my next sample I was ready to give up. The habanero sauce and green peppers had my tongue burning eyes watering. I instantly was ready to down some cool apple cider, but I stuck it out. I can honestly say I do not want any kind of meatball for a long time.
Brain Sandwich
Booth: Simpsons UMS #53
Price: $5.50
I had no idea what to expect as I ordered a brain sandwich, but the long line gave me the idea that it wouldn’t be so bad. I was wrong. The first bite made me regret wasting any time in line. The crunchy outside was just a disguise to the mushy interior that lingered in my mouth long after I swallowed it. I’m leaving the brains for the zombies.
Deep Fried Kool-Aid
Booth: The Potter’s Wheel #16
Price: $3.50
When I finally got to try some desert I was ready for anything except deep fried Kool-Aid. It looked like hard candy laced with powdered sugar and I was depressed. That depression didn’t last long, after the first bite I was in heaven. It was nothing like hard candy. It was soft and melted in my mouth. It was by far the best food I tried all night.
