The USI crime log is a record of any criminal activity on campus, and can be found in the Public Safety office or here online. The crime log is recorded in compliance with the Clery Act, and it details what incidents public safety is responding to, where on campus the disturbance happened and when it was called in.
The Clery Act is a federal statute that requires all public universities to maintain a daily report of crimes committed on campus, and publish an annual report on Oct. 1 detailing the data and statistics related to the crimes committed on campus that year. These crimes can range from thievery and destruction of property to hate crimes and sexual assault. More information on the Clery Act and what it entails can be found at the Clery Center website.
According to the USI Public Safety homepage, their duties include “traffic control, security of physical assets, and safety of all employees, students, and guests of the campus.”
While the Clery Act does not require campus security to provide a record of how each hour of every officer’s day went, it does require a record of all incidents that public safety officers responded to that are within their jurisdiction.
According to USI Public Safety Reports and Forms, Public Safety will have all incidents posted on the crime log within two business days of their occurrence unless “disclosure of such information is prohibited by law or such disclosure would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim.”
