Yamil Conga, performer and keynote speaker, and Michael Angelo, present Latin dance and music culture in Carter Hall for “De Africa al Caribe, The 5,000-mile journey of the Congo drum into the Americas” Monday, Oct. 27. Angelo gave a mini-lesson on the different styles of Latin dancing, such as salsa and bachata. Members of Evansville Latin Dance also gave a demonstration of these dances. Conga shared his unique work with a combination of drums and other instruments. He then presented a lecture on the history and evolution of Latin music and instrumentation, mainly focusing on percussion instruments.
