French Fries, Good Shepherd No.25

The fries from the Good Shepherd booth were the perfect start to my food exploration at Fall Fest. They were perfectly cooked, not burnt but not too soft. They were also fresh and hot, making them absolutely wonderful. 9/10.

Absolutely fire. They were perfectly salted and tasted heavenly. The fries were like diner crinkle fries that are made of premium potatoes from the heavens. They werejust the perfect amount of crunchy outside and perfectly cooked inside. Those are the absolute best fries in this universe. I’m not sure what these wizards do to those fries, but they better keep doing it. A point was deducted because the appearance of some of the fries was a little burnt, but they still tasted amazing, so they received back half a point. 9.5/10

Street Corn, USI College of Liberal Arts No. 38

The USI street corn was definitely something I was looking forward to having again after last year, when I ranked it a 10/10. Unfortunately, my ranking went down this year. This is not to say it was bad; it was still good. I was just disappointed after last year. I do think this had to do with the change of hands for the booth, and hopefully, I will be able to rank higher again next year since they now have a fall fest under their belts. 7/10.

Puppy chow Sunday, Evansville Young Life No.21
For the most part, it was just vanilla ice cream with puppy chow on top. I’m typically not a puppy chow person, but I did enjoy this. 10/10.

Donut Burger, Evansville Young Life No.21

The famous donut burger was unfortunately not worth the 30-minute wait. I personally took the cheese off since I’m not a big fan of cheese. The dual tastes of donut sweetness and burger were not very pleasant to my taste buds. It did not live up to the expectations. I will say that I surprisingly enjoyed the donut on its own. The burger alone, not so much. This odd combination was decent and well-made, even though I didn’t finish it. I’ll have to give it a mediocre rating. 4/10.

Bratwurst, Germania Männerchor No.132

For the most part, this brat was good. I am very much a fan of bratwurst, so it makes me both in favor of every brat I have, as well as being incredibly picky about them. I will say, for food trucks, this was a great brat, so I can not judge it too harshly. 6.5/10.

Kraut Balls, Germania Männerchor No.132

After hearing how intensely a classmate of mine hyped up the kraut balls, I had to finally try them. Unfortunately, I would consider them inedible. The texture was overly creamy and the taste was not especially pleasant. I wasn’t even able to eat half the dish before I had to throw it away. I don’t know if they were to blame for my stomach hurting all evening, or if it was the fried food in general, but I did not feel well that night. I want to give them the benefit of that doubt, because I remember her saying there was always a line for them, and that they usually sell out. However, this year there wasn’t a line at all. This may have just been an off year for them. 3/10.

Big Red Float, Faith Church No.123

I’m always a fan of Big Red, as well as any sort of soda float, so this was a perfect combination. Not only that, but they added cherries, which really sealed the deal for me. 10/10.

Vanilla Ice Cream, Faith Church No.123
This ice cream was superb. It was a well-crafted soft-serve rivaling the one and only Dairy Queen. This vanilla flavored ambrosia was the perfect temperature and melt factor, warm enough not to cause a brain freeze, yet cold enough to not be a watery mess. This booth doesn’t officially sell just ice cream, but they made a bit of an exception to their floats to give me ice cream. They were so kind and gave me the ice cream quickly. For that alone, they would get an A+ for service. The phenomenal ice cream was the bonus. 10/10.

The Deep Fried PB&J, Pleasant Chapel No.17

Although the deep fried Uncrustable isn’t my favorite deep fried dessert that the Fall Fest has to offer, it’s still delicious. 7/10.

The Fried Sampler and Lemon/orange shake up, Vanderburgh Humane Society No.75
The fried sampler is the indecisive person’s dream, especially at the Fall Fest, where spending can add up quickly. But all of its elements could have used more seasoning. The green beans and the mac and cheese weren’t especially flavorful. The mac and cheese was my least favorite part, which I didn’t expect because the VHS’s deep fried mac and cheese is something I get just about every year. Don’t get me wrong, it was good, but there was room for improvement. 5.5/10.
The beverages were consistently pretty expensive this year, so the lemon orange shake up was a good deal. I was a bit nervous that I wouldn’t like the combination, but overall, this drink was refreshing and just the right amount of sweet. 7/10.
