Abigail McIntosh, instructor in nursing, reads instructions to students Tuesday in the Health Professions Center. The instructions explained why the coloring activity was chosen.
Katherine Watts, instructor of art, Abigail McIntosh, instructor of nursing, and Amy Pierce, instructor of nursing, collaborated on an art therapy event held in the Health Professions Center Tuesday. It was aimed at promoting therapeutic art techniques for graduating students in nursing and health professions.
Watts wrote, “The collaboration introduced … students to therapeutic art techniques designed to support their own mental health and [to] provide additional tools for use with their future patients.”
The event’s activities included watercolor painting, working with plasticine and coloring. These activities were intended to emphasize “the role of art in stress management, emotional processing, and patient care,” wrote Watts.
