Earlier today, Sept. 10, Charlie Kirk, a right-wing political activist known for going campus to campus to debate college students and scholars about the political climate, was shot in the neck during a Turning Point visit at Utah Valley University.
Around 3:40 p.m. CDT, Kirk was pronounced dead by his spokesperson, Andrew Kolvet.
According to The New York Times, the shooter is still at large. Authorities had arrested a man who had a concealed weapon on his person, but it was shortly announced that he was not the shooter, just a suspect. Orem Police, Utah Valley University Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Utah Department of Public Safety are currently investigating the incident. Images show students being escorted off campus for safety reasons.

The campus is closed and classes will be cancelled until further notice.
A spokesperson from the university has confirmed that the building where the shooter was positioned was at the Losee Center, next to the building where the Turning Point event was being held.
Ellen Treanor, university spokesperson, said in a statement, “There is no suspect in custody, it is an active investigation.”

Former President Biden said in a post on X that he and his wife are “praying for Charlie Kirk’s family and loved ones.”
He also said, “There is no place in our country for this kind of violence. It must end now.”
