Welcome Week

USI has an incredible lineup of Welcome Week events to help students start the semester strong.

The Cultural Diversity Welcome Reception will kick off the academic year Aug. 14 at 2 p.m. in Carter Hall in University Center West. This annual event brings together faculty, staff, students, alumni, trustees, the university president and provost in an informal setting that emphasizes building bridges and academic excellence.

The Activities Programming Board presents Movie on The Quad featuring “Grown Ups” on Aug. 14 at 8 p.m.

TGIF (Thank God It’s Friday) and the Center for Campus Life will transform the Fuquay Welcome Center, David and Betty Rice Plaza and University Center Breezeway with free food trucks, music, a glow party and exclusive TGIF merchandise Aug. 15 at 6 p.m.

Greek Life

Aloha from the Greeks offers a Hawaiian-themed introduction to fraternity and sorority life on Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. in Rice Plaza, featuring Kona Ice for all attendees.

The Interfraternity Council is hosting Gaming with the Greeks on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Recreation, Fitness and Wellness Center Lounge, featuring food, video games, pool and ping pong.

Alpha Phi Omega will host Tie Dye on The Quad on Aug. 16. at 4:30 p.m. This event will offer students a chance to meet members and create colorful designs.

The Fraternity & Sorority Life Info Night on Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. in Carter Hall will provide students with the opportunity to meet representatives from each organization and learn about membership opportunities.

Campus Activities 

Evansville on Tour will take place on Aug. 16 at 9 a.m. and will offer students two options: a shuttle to downtown Evansville and Franklin St. Bazaar, or guided hikes on USI’s beautiful campus trails.

The Recess Club will host First Day of Recess on Aug. 16 at noon on the University Quad, featuring Gaga Ball, 9 Square, Tug of War and parachute games.

Delight USI invites students to attend Charm Bracelet Making on Aug.16 at 4 p.m. in BE0030 in the Business Engineering Center. There, they can meet ministry members while creating personalized jewelry. 

Southern Indiana Dance Marathon will host Karaoke on Aug.16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge in University Center East. Students can sing their favorite songs and learn about the organization. 

The Center for Campus Life is hosting free Putt Putt on Aug.16 at 6 p.m. on the patio outside of University Center East

Super Bingo will be held on Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. in Carter Hall with prizes ranging from Tide pods to a new TV.

Rock the Rec will be hosted on Aug. 20 at 5 p.m. in the RFWC. Offering free food, games, and giveaways.

Entertainment Highlights 

Jack Kelly will bring his award-winning live magic show to USI on Aug. 16 at 8 p.m in the Performance Center. This touring magician has wowed crowds in over 30 states and earned the “Audience Favorite” recognition at South Carolina’s top magic venue.

Rhythm Fest will take place on Aug. 21 at 5 p.m. in Carter Hall with a high-energy concert featuring live performances, dancing and a celebration to kick off the academic year.

Multicultural Center Programming 

The Annual Ice Cream Social will take place on Aug. 18 at 12:30 p.m. in the UC Breezeway. It will introduce students to MCC staff and upcoming programming.

The College Mentors for Kids Callout Rally will be on Aug. 19 at 3:30 p.m. in the Traditions Lounge. It will explain their nationally recognized mentoring program.

The Multicultural Mentoring Programs Informational will take place on Aug. 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the Traditions Lounge.

The Annual Cookout & Open House will take place on Aug. 22 at 4 p.m. in Rice Plaza. It will feature a live DJ, prizes and student organization showcases.

Career and Academic Opportunities 

Harding, Shymanski & Co. will offer free ice cream for accounting and finance majors and will take place on Aug. 27 at noon in the Business and Engineering Center Parking Lot. It will provide networking opportunities and career information.

The Fall Student Involvement Fair will take place on Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. on The Quad. It will connect students with organizations, programs and campus services. 

The Part-Time Job Fair will take place on Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. in Carter Hall. It aims to help students find employment opportunities.

Student Organization Information 

Student organizations must complete their renewal process by Sep. 26. Renewal sessions are scheduled for Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in UC 2217-2220, and Aug. 28 at 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. in UC 226-227. At least one officer from each organization must attend.
