For those unfamiliar with the senior art exhibition, it is the culmination of the Senior Seminar capstone.
“Each semester, the students enrolled in the Senior Seminar capstone course work together to assemble an exhibition of the favorite artworks they have created,” said Greg Blair, assistant professor of art and design.
After students present their artwork to their class, the class determines which works to include, keeping in mind the space available in the gallery and the number of works by each student.
“It can be difficult to choose which pieces to include,” said Blair, “but having multiple perspectives and opinions assists us in making those final decisions.”
Blair believes that a highlight for the group was how they were able to solve problems as a team. “Almost all the decisions we make about schedules, organization, and how things are structured occur through a democratic process in which each student has a voice. That is a special type of situation that helps the students to feel like they have more ownership of the course,” he said.
Overall, Blair feels that they were well equipped to handle the challenges that come with exhibiting on this scale.
The show will remain on display in the Kenneth P. McCutchan Art Center/Palmina F. and Stephen S. Pace Galleries until May 2. The reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on April 12.
“I am so proud of their accomplishments, and they should celebrate this moment when they get to show off the products of all their hard work,” said Blair.
“Have some fun and find some moments to pause and enjoy the process,” he added. “The final semester is a whirlwind, but before you know it, it is over, and you will miss the people and places that have been a significant part of your life over the last several years.”
