On Thursday, the College of Liberal Arts held a poetry reading to commemorate National Poetry Month. The reading featured poems by both Rosalie Moffett and Mitchell L. H. Douglas. After the reading, there was a question and answer session with the poets.
Rosalie Moffett, assistant professor of English, has won the National Poetry Series Prize and the Charles B. Wheeler Poetry Prize. She read a few poems from her new book, “Making a Living,” released March 18. The poems centered around everyday aspects of life, including finances and motherhood.

Mitchell L. H. Douglass is an assistant professor of English at IU Indianapolis and has won the Persea Books Lexi Rudnitsky Award and an NAACP Image Award. The poems he read were a combination of some from his previously published books and some that are still being published. The poems incorporated his love of music and experience as a teacher to produce themes and messages surrounding love, fatherhood and familial relationships.
The Q&A session focused on finding your style as a writer and seeking out time throughout the day to write. Both shared some of their struggles while managing writing and family life.
