Last week’s Student Government Association meeting began with roll call, followed by the resignation of a general assembly member. Eddie Marsee, former veteran student member at large, resigned from his position, leaving the seat vacant. No further comment was made on the resignation.

According to SGA President Tamia Smith, when a general assembly member resigns, their position becomes available to the student body.
“Typically, when someone resigns, their position becomes vacant and those interested in the position can apply on Engage,” she said. “However, during the second semester, SGA is preparing for schoolwide elections, so applications close in early January. A new application opens later this semester, where all positions are open, but the difference is that if you apply, you are then voted on by the entire school. This is also when a new executive board is elected.”
Smith said the student government body is currently gearing up for spring elections.
Following the general meeting agenda, SGA welcomed another guest speaker this week. Mary Jo Gober, USI Dining’s catering manager, shared new catering features available on campus.
“Instead of emailing the catering email, student orgs can now just go to our website and click on CaterTrax,” Gober said. “So we essentially have two options. There’s the Flavors menu, which would be for big meals and stuff like that. We also offer a menu called Square Tomato, which is strictly for students.”
More information regarding CaterTrax can be accessed from this December USI press release.
The meeting then shifted to the executive board approving minutes and discussing new and old business before entering an executive session, which was strictly for student government members, before adjourning.
