This election year the Obama administration signaled that it would continue to allow federal contractors to discriminate against gay, bisexual or transgendered people. What? First and foremost how can we overlook the word in that sentence discriminate – wasn’t the civil rights movement an effort to stop discrimination? Yes, yes it was. Perhaps the effort to end discrimination has to come one issue at a time?
I don’t understand this at all.
The second word that struck me as interesting “gay, bisexual and transgendered people” people, yes they might be of alternative sexuality but that doesn’t dehumanize them the least bit.
Shakespeare (the world’s biggest literary genius to date) wrote in the Merchants of Venice, “If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, do we not revenge?”
I often think that what people can’t understand they deem disgusting, sinful or wrong. The ignorance of some shouldn’t rule the happiness and quality of living as others.
Why can’t gay people have the same rights? Can anybody really honestly answer this for me? I don’t want to hear “because it’s a sin” because everyone is a sinner and by that clear and obviously flawless logic, we all wouldn’t have rights.
This is an issue that keeps popping up because it isn’t going anywhere. In the land of the free, why isn’t everyone free?
