More construction has been present on campus alongside other new additions.
Parking Lot O, located behind the Recreation, Fitness and Wellness Center and near Strassweg Field, has been closed to USI students and employees since Nov. 7. The lot will remain closed until further notice.
This additional closure is due to construction crews using the lot to work on the RFWC bicycle shop.
The bike shop will be located in the back of the RFWC by the free weight area and attached to the main building. Its introduction will give the RFWC a place to store the bikes and bike equipment it offers students and staff.
Jim Wolfe, director of facility operations and planning, said the bike shop will expand the space of the free weight area. A large storage area will also be constructed behind the RFWC basketball courts.
The construction of this addition is expected to last until Summer 2025.
The closure of Lot O has caused Lot D to fill up.
Reagan Lever, freshman nursing major, lives in the Newman residence hall. She said she had trouble parking near her dorm.
“I didn’t park in the lot by the soccer field, but it has caused Lot D to fill up, which has made parking more difficult for me,” Lever said.
While construction occurs and Lot O is closed, student residents are recommended to use Lot E and Lot F near the residence halls and Lot M behind the O’Bannon and Ruston residence halls. Commuter students are recommended to use Lot D.
