The 16th annual Exploring Majors and Minors Fair will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday in Carter Hall, located in University Center West. Over 100 fields of study will be represented at the fair, and door prizes and refreshments will be available.
Jacob Jenkins, advisor and coordinator at the Center for Exploring Majors, said the event is for students to explore the “100 different areas of study” at USI.
According to the USI bulletin webpage, undecided students are temporarily enrolled in University Division instead of an academic major. However, students must select a major before the first semester of junior year.
Students will have the opportunity to learn about majors and minors, win door prizes and engage with representatives from university programs, including the Honors Program, 21st Century Scholars and the Center for Exploring Majors. The fair will also feature several clubs from across campus.
Jenkins said some departments like to showcase their “latest tech” and provide “hands-on things” at their booths.
“The Exploring Majors and Minors Fair can be a bit like a salad bar,” he said. “If you really like croutons on your salad, and that may be the psychology major, spend all your time talking to them. Load up on croutons. If you don’t like black olives, and that’s maybe the math major, well then you don’t need to talk to them. There’s no worries, it’s stress-free, very laid back, and relaxed.”
