The Eagle Express Convenience Store and Archie’s Pizzeria have been revamped with a new layout and expanded menu offerings, which can be viewed on its SodexoMyWay page.
Heather Doughman, Eagle Express Convenience Store retail manager, said construction began in mid-May.
“They changed all the flooring, all the furniture in the store,” she said. “They replaced all the shelving, counter space, everything.”
Ashleigh Anderson, sophomore nursing major, said the convenience store looks more modern and that she really likes it.
“I think it’s all new, and I feel like it matches USI with the navy and everything,” she said. “It’s really nice. I walked in, and I was like, ‘Whoa.’ I did not expect it to look like this at all. It’s completely different but in a good way.”
Peyton Worstell, junior social work major, said the convenience store looks “very modernized.”
“I feel like it was more cozy in here before,” she said. “So now it just feels a little less personal. I like that there’s more seating, though.”
Rae Spears, freshman illustration major, said the layout is “cool” and that they might spend time at the convenience store with their roommates.
In addition to the convenience store’s refurbished layout, Archie’s Pizzeria will feature an expanded menu, including new breakfast options, sandwiches, burgers, curly fries and fresh gelato from a self-serve SOLATO Machine.
Doughman said the SOLATO machine will provide seven flavors: vanilla, chocolate, coffee, salted caramel, no-sugar-added yogurt, strawberry and mango sorbet.
“You get a little cup, and it’s actually refrigerated, not frozen,” she said. “And the machine flash-freezes it, and then it comes out like ice cream sensors, so you have to put your cup underneath.”
Free SOLATO gelato samples will be served Monday through Wednesday at University Center West and Thursday through Friday at the Eagle Express Convenience Store.
