USI fell to the University of Indy for the first time at home since 1982; the game was a physical match up on the court The final score was 70-68 a shot that was tipped in by U Indy off a second missed free throw leaving .5 tenths of a second on the clock.
“That was a great college game,” said Head Coach Rodney Watson “We knew it was going to be tough and it was. They just got us today.”
USI kept the greyhounds to 43 percent from the field and forced 9 turnovers. The game was very physical with the greyhounds having 16 personal fouls and USI 14.
“That was a physical game,” said Senior Kevin Gant, “They got a lot of the loose balls we should have, they just wanted it more.”
The field house was raucous when U Indy tipped in a free throw; many believed the shot shouldn’t have counted. The USI men showed great poise though and put themselves in a position to pull off the win.
“That’s a tough shot there. You want to try and box them out,” said Watson, “It’s just hard to see the boards and there’s a lot going on. I commend on our guys on how they played.”
USI still has a strong record 16-2 overall and 8-2 in the division. The next game up for the Eagles is against Lewis on Thursday at the physical activities center.
