Public Safety reported a sexual offense as a rape on campus Saturday.

The Public Safety public crime log reported a sex offense as rape at 12:33 a.m. on Saturday.

The Clery Act requires Public Safety to issue a timely warning when Public Safety perceives a potential threat to the campus. Public Safety did not issue one Saturday.

The crime is being investigated by the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office according to Colonel Noah Robinson.

Robinson could not provide more information on charges to protect the victim’s identity.

In the incident report provided by the Sheriff’s Office indicated the incident was sexual battery.

Steve Bequette, director of Public Safety, was not available for comment to explain not issuing a timely warning or the discrepancy between the crime log and incident report before the deadline.
