2019 Berger Lecture to cover Black Arts Movement

Riley Guerzini, Editor-in-Chief

Award-winning theatre director Ron Himes and current Artist-in-Residence Heather Beal will present the 2019 Sydney Berger Lecture “The Re/Evolution of the Black Arts Movement” at 6 p.m. Oct. 16 in Mitchell Auditorium.

The lecture will investigate the continued need for cultural institutions of color. Himes and Beal will address why there is still a need for a theatre company dedicated to blackness.

The College of Liberal Arts presents the Berger Lecture every year in honor of Sydney Berger, an Evansville attorney who worked with civil rights organizations and taught at USI for nearly two decades. A guest lecturer presents on the theme of civil rights or liberties each year.
