A USI student died Wednesday afternoon as the result of a single-vehicle car crash.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office put out a report stating that a red passenger car was heading westbound on the 15000 block of Old Henderson Road when the vehicle traveled at least 100 yards off the roadway for an unknown reason.
The vehicle hit a large tree and caught fire, according to the report.
The driver of the vehicle, Tyler Barr, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.
The sophomore undecided major is believed to have been the vehicle’s sole occupant.
Barr, who turned 20 Monday, was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and graduated from F.J. Reitz High School in 2014.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office are still investigating the crash.
