Men’s golf did not go exactly as planned for the team this year. The team was one of many to have their schedules effected by the weather.
Head coach Jim Cheaney said the weather drove the season crazy; it was often cold, wet and windy.
“It made some tournaments unplayable,” Cheaney said.
Freshman Kyle Tanreverdi said the weather was diminishing for the team and they were not all prepared for it.
Cheaney said one high point of the season was the top three players on the team were all new players.
One of those players was Tanreverdi.
In there final competition, the GLVC Championship, Tanreverdi had his second best finish of the year, but still he was not happy with the year as a whole.
He said the year was a little frustrating for him and he felt there was some poor play.
Cheaney said it came from the team being so young and being inexperienced, but one of the highlights for him was the growth he saw.
The team struggled to have strong performances all at the same time. Players would have a good round, but it would be when others on the team were not competing at their best.
One thing the team is looking forward to is starting stronger next year.
Tanreverdi said the freshman will be coming back with more confidence and he personally will be able to overcome an issue he had this year.
“I played through high school and then through summer too,” Tanreverdi said.
He said this was draining and next year he will be more prepared and relaxed.
“We’ll be ready to play some good golf,” he said.
Cheaney is also ready for the chances that come with adding to the team.
He said the team will be bringing more talent in and this will include both kids recruited with scholarships and those who are not.
