The women’s golf team has had a successful spring season.
Coach Don Bisesi said overall it has been successful due to the team’s effort at its various tournaments.
“We have won three out of six tournaments this year,” Bisesi said. “We had one bad one, but the improvement has been great.”
The team recently completed Great Lakes Valley Conference championships and placed third of 14 teams.
Going into the competition, the players were excited to play and felt the chemistry they had would help them find success.
Junior Molly English said, in her experience on the team, this year’s is the most compatible and has the best chemistry. She said the team in previous years had a lot of people who were not “team players.”
“I think this is our best year,” English said. “We are more of a team.”
Bisesi also said the team’s ability to interact with each other is an advantage.
He said he has had experience coaching teams where the girls hated each other, but this year, he has a great group of girls.
Even though the team has had good wins, he said the chemistry would have to be his highlight from the season at this point.
The wins did not come without hard work and practice on the part of the team.
Bisesi said all of the girls have good mechanics to get them started, and the team did focus on its short play, an area he has seen a lot of improvement in.
A stronger mentality also helped the team find success in its tournaments this year and to keep working toward its goals.
“This year, none of us gave up,” English said. “We would grind it out.”
English said the players had to keep in mind that every hole counts and not get down when one did not go as well as they hoped.
The team is going to take that mentality into the NCAA Divison II East Super-Regional Tournament.
It will compete for the fourth year in a row in the three-day tournament, which begins Sunday.
