For three years now, the Student Government Association has been host to the T-shirt Swap event where students, faculty and alumni are encouraged to swap out other university’s T-shirts for a USI T-shirt.
AVP of External Relations Alexa Bueltel said she feels this is a great event for students to show their school pride.
Bueltel said when SGA first started the program, she noticed many students were wearing Indiana University, Purdue University or University of Evansville shirts.
“I think it is really important for students to show their school pride at USI rather than wearing other university logos,” Bueltel said.
If a student does not want to swap another university’s t-shirt, they can go to the Campus Store located in University Center West and buy the USI T-shirt for $3, she said.
“Students can use cash, credit, debit and even their flex account to purchase it,” Bueltel said.
Students can stop by the SGA office in the lower level of University Center West from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day this week to get their new USI T-shirts.
If students are unavailable during these hours, the Campus Store will be participating in the swap during its regular hours, Bueltel said.
Junior history major Ashton Fueling said she likes the idea of having the t-shirt swap because it is a good way for the students to come together to promote school spirit.
“The T-shirt Swap is important because it allows the students to come together for one activity while also getting something for essentially free, or at least really cheap,” Fueling said.
Fueling said this event motivates her to wear more USI t-shirts, but she wishes the university would promote the event more.
Even though she said she is unsure what the logo looks like, Fueling said she intends to partake in the event because it is “too good of a deal to pass up.”
“Students should really participate in this event because if you are to buy a shirt from the Campus Store regularly, you are likely to pay $20, Fueling said. “So you end up saving a lot of money.”
SGA President Zack Mathis said one of the best aspects of this year’s swap is that the shirts will have the 50th anniversary logo on them.
He said it can remind students how far USI has come over the years.
Because SGA sold all of its shirts last year before the week was over, the organization has decided to order more in preparation.
“Last year we ordered around 700 shirts, but since we ran out around Wednesday we decided to order about 1,000,” Mathis said.
All of the T-shirts collected during the swap will be donated to Goodwill.
