The Edge Radio and MJG Productions will collaborate to produce an intense, zombie-themed dance party in the Physical Activities Center on Friday for students looking to unwind before a stressful week of finals.
All ages can attend the event which will feature DJs, live painters, shadow dancers and more with a portion of ticket sales going to Riley Children’s Research Hospital.
Michael Guess, owner of MJG, a local events planning and promotions company, organized the event.
“I have an eight-year-old daughter and last year, around February, she spent 17 days in the hospital with a blood clot in her brain. They saved her life. She was hours away from dying,” Guess said.
“This is kinda my way of giving back.”
The event will primarily feature Dubstep along with Drumstep and Breakbeat music. Dubstep, a newer genre of music, has recently gained local popularity and attention.
“I think it’s the intensity of the music, the actual beats themselves, the layers and the wobble,” Guess said.
The genre of electronic dance music originally started in the U.K. but has since spread, he said.
“It’s evolved – American Dubstep focuses more on vocals.”
The three acts include Shock to the System, Psynapse and Kill Paris.
Doors to the PAC will open at 6:30 p.m. The event starts at 7 p.m. and ends at midnight.
Local and national artists will paint live to the music. All paintings will be done free-style and some will be graffiti.
To add to the mix, the Evansville Fire Family will be performing. The local performance group has gained many fans through shows done at the Four Freedoms Monument on the Evansville riverfront.
Dressed as zombies, the local group will be dancing with LED lights on stage and on the floor.
Concessions will be provided by Papa Murphy’s.
Tickets can be purchased at any Evansville Papa Murphy’s location or Joe’s Records for $12. At the door, tickets are $15, or $12 with zombie attire or a canned food item. USI students pay $10.
Non-perishable food will be donated to the Tri-State Food Bank.
For the over-21 crowd, MJG will host its official Outbreak after-party with Kill Paris and Shock to the System that night at Hammerheads bar at 317 Main St.
“I hope to get out of the event as many people as possible. I want people to come and see it’s a good positive energy. It’s not the 90s rave mentality, and I want to expose people to this music,” Guess said.
