Feminism, the advocacy of women’s rights based on the equality of the sexes. In the recent development of the feminist movement, one thing is for certain: Women of power undermine all women. The women that live with their families, who are getting a degree, who enjoy the simple things. This is who this story is for.
There are often times when I read a book where the author emphasizes someone’s gender. Usually, in an account for women. Oftentimes, people emphasize gender in discussions. Gender is overemphasized to the point where it’s aggravating. Some women, because of this emphasis, began to turn towards more traditional values.
The trend of ‘trade-wives’ began to grow in popularity over the last year. This movement of traditional mothers, which is usually correlated to stay-at-home mothers, has been bashed by many feminists, claiming that these women are being ‘oppressed’ by their husbands. This is not a case of spousal abuse. One of these rights is the choice to be a stay-at-home mother. A lot of modern-day feminists forget this fact, which is why I want to discuss this viewpoint.
Women, specifically mothers, have the most important job of being a caretakers for their children. These children are our next mothers, fathers, husbands, wives and so on. Raising their children to the best of their abilities is something that’s more often than not overshadowed. This should be frustrating for all women. There is a push that is often pushed by modern-day feminists that I don’t like.
Modern-day feminism has turned into more of a competition against men. My own experiences with modern-day feminists is that they’re unnecessarily aggressive and rude towards anyone they disagree with, more often than not, men.
This is ironic considering that the men in power at the time were the ones to give women their rights. For example, the president who gave women the right to vote was Woodrow Wilson, who filed file 89 in Series 4. These papers were a fight for women’s suffrage, which led to the 19th Amendment being ratified in June 1919. Ever since this, women have been given more rights as our country grew.
Online, I see some women in the media suggesting, “Because I’m a woman, you should do this…” Only being a woman doesn’t make you qualified for an authority on how one should live. There’s a rising trend where men are turning to traditional values in their lives and relationships because of modern-day feminists turning to blame modern men for something they didn’t do and was a mistake of their past counterparts.
The first instance I saw this in action was when I was ten years old and Hillary Clinton was running for president. I was looking into the way our government is run, and since this election was such a big deal, it was hard not to hear about it. Hillary Clinton heavily pushed the narrative of the first woman president. However, important questions were not being answered, at least to me. What did she do for this country in other instances? All I saw was that people were saying to vote for her because she could be the first woman president.
To quote my favorite character, Knuckles, from Sonic Boom: Eggman’s Anti-Gravity Ray, season 2, episode 38, “You know…anytime someone calls attention to the breaking of gender roles it ultimately undermines the concept of gender equality by implying that this is an exception and not the status quo.”
While it is a funny line in a children’s TV show and was put in to break a character’s normal personality as a joke, it holds as much truth as if any other person of power had said it.
While I know many modern-day feminists do not display the actions written above, most modern-day feminists create divisions between men and women. We should strive to be the same rather than trying to one-up each other. Our want to be better than the other is what got us into the mess of sexism. We should look back on history and learn from it, not hide from it.
