At midday on Saturday, attendees for Evansville Horror Con waited in a line that snaked down the side of the Old National Events Plaza.

Day one of the event was crowded, with droves of people filtering between scheduled events and vendor booths that sold artisanal goods, self-published novels, fandom merchandise and more.

Nico Armeanu is a junior studio art and German major. Armeanu joined The Shield in Spring 2024 as a photographer and now serves as the arts and entertainment editor. Armeanu was the district winner at the 2022 Congressional Art Competition and won the freshman award in USI’s 53rd Annual Juried Art Contest. In 2023, they won best in show for the teen category at the Wesselman Wood’s Juried Art Contest. Armeanu spends most of their free time making art. Outside of that, they enjoy swimming, playing guitar and working on DIY projects.
