My interim pastor in my hometown church is female. I do not have a problem with her at all, beside the fact her singing is not the best.
My sister, a senior in high school, on the other hand, does. Pastors should not be female, or so she said.
I asked her why. I could see where this was going, and I was not going to be happy.
She answered: according to the Bible, men are supposed to be in charge.
Excuse me.
No.
I am in charge- all the time. OK, not really, but did women’s rights not happen in her world? I personally like to be “in charge” because I know how things will go if planned out. I know how I am, and I am slightly anal about organizational skills.
Anyway she said men needed to provide in the relationship, women still could have jobs, but the men provided for the women. This still didn’t make sense to me. Why depend on anyone like that- male or female?
I then proceeded to ask what lesbians have to do because there is “no man to provide for them.”
“Well, they shouldn’t be lesbians.”
Excuse me? No, no, no, no.
She then said she had a friend who had homoerotic feelings, and he changed them.
My poor naïve little sister, you are wrong. He may have said that and believe it himself, but that is not how I believe it to work.
I wish her luck in the world because downgrading women’s rights and believing people are not “born this way” is going to lead you into a mess of trouble.
