Arguably, the toughest draw of the Big Ten Tournament is the West Region.
The region is fronted by number 1 seeded, ACC tournament champion and last year’s National Champion, the Duke Blue Devils.
The other top teams of this region include: number two seed and Mountain West tournament Champion San Diego State Aztecs, number three seed and Big East tournament Champion Uconn Huskies and number four seed and Big 12 tournament runner-up Texas Longhorns.
The most intriguing first round game of the region could come from the 5/12 match-up between Pac 10 tournament runner-up Arizona and Conference USA tournament champion Memphis.
Both teams have quality, young talent and are capable of making a run in the tournament.
Potential sleepers in this region include number 13 seed and Summit League champions the Oakland Golden Grizzlies and Big Ten darling Penn State.
The Golden Grizzlies are extremely underrated because they play in a smaller conference but have a NBA caliber front line, and Penn State has underachieved all year in the Big Ten, but has been more successful as of late with a runner-up finish in the tournament.
The East Region includes top seeded Ohio State, ACC tournament runner-up North Carolina and SEC tournament champion Kentucky.
Big East powerhouse Syracuse is the third seed and has the talent and experience to make a run to the final four.
The most intriguing game could come from the 8/9 match-up. The game features number eight seed George Mason and number nine seed Villanova.
George Mason has a talented, underrated squad that is looking to make a deep run like the 2006 George Mason team that made it all the way to the Final Four.
Villanova started off the season strong but has failed to end the season the same, which included a stunning loss in the first round of the Big East Tournament to a lowly South Florida team.
Potential sleepers in this region include number 11 seed Marquette.
The Golden Eagles are battle tested from playing in a loaded Big East conference and are led by a strong core of veteran leaders.
The winner of the UAB vs. Clemson game could give the number five seed West Virginia some troubles.
The South East Region is headlined by number one seed and Big East leader Pittsburgh. The region also includes SEC tournament runner-up and number two seed Florida, number three seed and Mountain West runner-up BYU and number four seed Wisconsin.
The most intriguing first round match-up may be the 7/10 game between seven seed UCLA and number 10 seed Michigan State.
The Bruins have tradition and previous tournament success, but are limping into this year’s tournament with an unproven line-up that is looking to make its own mark on the program.
The Spartans have underachieved all season and are looking to make a run to turn their dismal season around. Michigan State always seems to play their best basketball in March, so it will be interesting to see if they can continue the trend.
Potential sleepers in this region include The Belmont Bruins, the number 13 seed and Atlantic Sun Conference champion.
They could give the number four seed Wisconsin Badgers fits, especially after their poor showing in the Big Ten tournament.
Another team to watch out for is number 12 seed Utah State Aggies.
The Aggies finished the season ranked 19th in the AP poll and a WAC conference tournament championship. They could potentially cause fits for number five seed Kansas State, who has struggled at times during the season.
The South West region is led by top seed and Big 12 Tournament champion Kansas.
The region also features number two seed and senior heavy Notre Dame Fighting Irish, number three seed and Big Ten power Purdue Boilermakers and number four seed and Big East tournament runner-up Louisville Cardinals.
The most intriguing match-up could come from the 5/12 game between Vanderbilt and Richmond.
Vanderbilt has been a solid team all season and has a great mixture of veterans and young talent. Richmond is coming off an Atlantic 10 tournament championship and is going to be gunning to upset a power conference team.
A potential sleeper team in this region is Morehead State. The Eagles just won an Ohio Valley Conference title and are looking to score an in-state victory over four seed Louisville.
Another up-and-coming team is number 10 seed Florida State. The Seminoles are coming off a heart breaking loss to Virginia Tech in the ACC tournament.
Florida State has the talent and experience to knock off overrated Texas A&M.
