Performing Arts department to host first-ever faculty piano recital
The university’s Performing Arts department will host a piano recital by instructor in music, Thomas Drury March 22 at 7 p.m. in the Performance Center. This event is free and open to the public.
The theme of the event is “Dance Music for the Piano” and it features music by Frederic Chopin and Scott Joplin. This recital will explore how each composer used the music and dance rhythms of his background to give people a voice in their music.
Drury directs the university’s Jazz Ensemble in addition to teaching music classes. He composes music in his spare time and serves as organist and director of music at Trinity United Methodist Church. He has also performed on piano and harpsichord with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and is the leader of his own professional jazz ensemble, the Tom Drury Quintet.
