University memorial planned for administrative assistant

The Art and Design department announced on Facebook Jan. 4, that a university memorial service for a former administrative assistant will take place on Jan 15.

On Nov. 21, University Communications confirmed that Virginia Thomas, 71,  died on Nov. 18 in an email sent to the USI community.

Interim Art and Design Chair Katie Waters previously told The Shield that a university memorial made the most sense because Thomas “knew everyone at the university.”

The memorial is set to begin at 3 p.m. and last until 5 p.m., with remarks at 3:30 p.m. The memorial will take place in the McCutchan Art Center And Pace Galleries located in the lower level of the Liberal Arts building.

Visitation for Thomas was Nov. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. and services were held Nov. 24 at 11a.m., both at R. Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel. Liberal Arts Dean James Beeby was among notable guests at Thomas’s funeral.

The university is offering on-campus resources through the Dean of Students Office and Counseling Center.

Other campus resources include the Multicultural Center, Religious Life, Housing and Residence Life and the University Health Center.
