New bus line added to campus

The Metropolitan Evansville Transit System (METS), has added a new bus line to run on USI’s campus.

The new White line is the third bus line on campus and will run simultaneously with the Blue and Red lines from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Service for the new line began on October 1.

“It’s been going on for a number of years now,” said Director of Public Safety Steve Bequette. “We added a new line to accommodate students when there is inclement weather.”

The new White Line is the third bus line on campus and will run simultaneously with the Blue and Red lines from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Service for the new line began on October 1.

The new line will run until March and will not be operating on the weekends.

Bequette said that so far, the relationship between METS and USI has been excellent.

“They are very good partners,” he said. “Any issues we have had whether it be something with the bus route or what have you, they have assisted us in dealing with those problems.”

USI and METS provide bus transportation between campus and the housing apartment complex.

The METS West Connection shuttle connects USI with the METS city transportation system transfer point near the Schnuck’s Shopping Center.

Bequette said that although he recognizes the campus is growing, he doesn’t foresee the university adding an additional bus line anytime soon.

“I think the amount of service we provide matches the attendance we have,” he said. “There are only so many students in housing and the rest are commuters who don’t utilize that service.”

The buses are free of charge for students providing their USI ID and real-time tracking of the buses is available on DoubleMap at www.mets.doublemap.com.
