Since winning the first season of “American Idol” in 2002, Kelly Clarkson has made an admirable effort in keeping her music relevant in the world of entertainment.
With hits such as “Because of You” (2004), “Stronger” (2011), and “Piece by Piece” (2015), Clarkson has continuously combined her personal experiences with her incredible vocal ability to create beautifully crafted masterpieces.
In one of her newest songs, “I Don’t Think About You,” Kelly Clarkson once again shows her indescribable talents through her empowering lyrics and mind-blowing vocals.
A heart-wrenching journey of self-discovery, Clarkson’s “I Don’t Think About You” tells the story of how she has used the personal struggles she has experienced in her lifetime to grow into someone that she is proud of being.
Though she admits all these things once bothered her, she sings about how these things made her “stronger” in the end, undoubtedly making a clever reference to her earlier music.
At first, the “you” seems to be targeted towards her father, then shifts to an ex-boyfriend, and finally to the media and demands of society. This constant change in perspective shows that Kelly Clarkson is not talking about a specific individual, but instead about the negative influences on her throughout life as a whole.
By no longer allowing these negative influences to impact her life, Kelly Clarkson has broken out of the bondage of her heart, mind and soul, and has blossomed into a brilliant woman, mother and highly respected recording artist.
Musically, the song initially reflects the chord progression of most contemporary “pop” songs, following a repeated rhythm blended with the intricate sound of the stripped-down piano.
As the song progresses, Clarkson’s soulful vocal transforms the piece into an emotionally-driven melodic journey as she expertly travels through different levels of dynamics and dances with the rounded sound of the orchestra that subtly works its way into the background of the song.
The song provides an empowering message that once again shows Kelly Clarkson’s undeniable level of extreme artistry.
