UNIV 101 class is unnecessary. It‘s a waste of time and money.
Incoming freshmen do not need to take a class that is essentially saying, “Welcome to college.”
The UNIV 101 Freshmen Seminar is an “introduction to the University of Southern Indiana…and the intellectual, personal, and social aspects of university life,” according to the USI Academic Bulletin.
Incoming students understand that they are in college. Why do they need a class to tell them that?
The UNIV class has nothing to do with any major in particular, so what is the beneficial factor of it?
The cost of college credits get more expensive every year. The money spent to get an education here should go towards classes that are actually going to matter for a major and get students on the path to graduation.
Students are here to learn about their majors and what they plan to do with it once they graduate.
It is ludicrous to require students to take these classes when there are no real academic benefits of it.
Instead of wasting valuable time that could be spent working for other classes, make Eagle Experience a day long event during orientation week and welcoming people to college that way.
Going through a freshman seminar as a class is unnecessary and unneeded.
