No. 11 Southern Indiana didn’t need any additional motivation after falling behind by 20 to IU Southeast in their final game of the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic on Saturday. After all, the game USI found itself in carries the name of one of the university’s biggest supporters.

The Eagles added a exhibition contest against Saint Catharine College, which will take place Thursday at the Physical Activities Center on campus. The game tips at 4 p.m. and is free to the public.

IT’S A WIN-LOSE SITUATION: Exhibitions rake in $21,000 in guarantees

Southern Indiana men’s basketball played and ultimately fell in both of their exhibition games against Indiana and Tennessee, but the Eagles program made the most of the two trips. The beneficial qualities of the exhibition contests weren’t just noticed on the court either, but in the pocketbook as well. The men’s basketball program gained $10,000 for each game in guarantees agreed upon before the contest from both IU and UT.

The Aces led by 13 at halftime. Following it, the Eagles switched from having two post-players in the paint to just one. That helped in transition defense and it opened up the floor considerably for its guards, who were able to find a consistent rhythm offensively.

The Eagles fell in Bloomington to Indiana, 83-68 Saturday night. The Eagles will play Tennessee next week before opening the regular-season at Kentucky Wesleyan.
