With the snow pouring from the sky, it seems a bit too early to talk about the spring festivities that are coming to USI this year.
However, the lineup for USI’s annual SpringFest -to take place April 8 and 9 – has finally been determined.
The country concert will take place April 8 with Golden and Friends opening, followed by Country Music Award winners Emerson Drive and headlined by chart topping country artist Chris Cagle.
Saturday night the R&B and hip-hop concert will take place.
Opening that night will be unsigned rap artist Samuel, followed by Florida hip-hop duo Black Violin and headlined by Jason Derulo known for his popular songs “Whatcha Say” and “In My Head”.
SpringFest committee advisor and Director of Career Counseling Tim Buecher said that the committee created a survey and administered it to USI students in the University Center in November.
An online survey was also posted on Facebook.
A combined 2,230 students voted for this years’ SpringFest performers. Voters chose from each of the three categories: R&B, hip-hop and rock.
Options such as pop artists Ke$ha, Maroon 5 and Weezer were listed, but all declined. The only musician to accept USI’s offer was rap artist Jason Derulo.
The rest of the artists that will be playing at SpringFest this year were names suggested by students on the SpringFest committee and students from other campus organizations.
Ticket prices have not been revealed yet, but Buecher assures that they will cost no more than $20 for USI students.
Doors will open up at 7:30 both nights.
More bands and information will be announced closer to SpringFest.
