The other day I was just flipping through channels when I found myself stopped on TLC and yelling at the television. What was I watching? “Toddlers and Tiaras.”
“Toddlers and Tiaras” follows the life of children competing in Glitz beauty pageants. The show focuses on the preparation and the aftermath of the pageants these young girl’s compete in.The show is like a car wreck, you can not help but to watch it.
Here are some of the most ridiculous moments I have seen on the show.
1. The mother of five year-old Carley, Melissa, insists her and her daughter are the same person. Melissa says her and Carley are best friends and both take pageants serious. As she is saying this Carley is pouting because she does not want to practice. Melissa claims Carley is the closest thing to an exact replica to her that there will ever be. “I just feel like that is me on the stage,” Melissa said.
Melissa, you need a wake up call. You and your daughter are not the same person. You need to stop living your life through her.
It is not fair that mothers force their kids to enter these pageants. Kids should be able to choose what they get involved in and clearly it is the parents dream to be in pageants not the children’s.
2. Jamie Sterling has five girls competing in pageants, including 6-year-old twins BreAnne and AshLynn. During her interview Jamie talks about about how BreAnne looks the most like her and states “she is probably the prettiest of the five.” She then continues to compare the twins that compete against each other; AshLynn is really skinny and has a bigger nose than BreAnne she says. Jamie also talks about how AshLynn takes the back seat to her twin because BreAnne is outgoing and full of life while “AshLynn is just AshLynn.”
First off, I cannot believe that she plays so much favoritism for one kid over the rest but even more importantly that she is being so blunt about it on national television. How do you think AshLynn feels when she watches this?
Not only are the pageants teaching her that she is not good enough, you are telling everyone that she isn’t.
Congratulations, you just broke one of your daughter’s hearts. Are you happy? Wait, I bet you do not even care because it is not BreAnne.
I have also seen an episode that a little girl was dressed up as Julia Roberts from Pretty Women and an episode where a little girl had a cone bra to impersonate Madonna.
The Glitz pageants make the little girls competing grow up too fast.
Not only are they wearing inappropriate outfits, but for the pageants, contestants often wear make, fake hair, fake eyelashes, fake nails, get spray tans, wax their eyebrows and even wear fake teeth.
These girls are being dress up like dolls. They should be playing with Barbie dolls not trying to look like one.
