The fee waiver is a part of Learn More Indiana’s initiative to make applying for college easier and more accessible to Indiana families.
USI’s decision to participate in the annual College GO! Week is part of a larger statewide effort led by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and Learn More Indiana. The program was started to provide valuable resources to guide students in the college planning process. By waiving the fee, colleges across Indiana hope to reduce one of the financial barriers that may dissuade students from applying.
Learn More Indiana’s College GO! Week Campaign takes place annually in September. According to the 2024 Indiana College GO! Campaign Starter Guide, the campaign is designed to deliver important college and career planning messages to students in ways that align with Indiana’s education standards.
College GO! Week is designed for high school seniors to explore their options and complete important steps in the process of college admissions. The week-long event focuses on helping students create an individualized plan for life beyond just high school, whether that be attending a community college, vocational training, or a four-year university.
Eddie Kelso, freshman anthropology major, said he applied during College GO! Week last year.
“From kindergarten to high school, my school district always participated in College GO! Week,” he said. “When I got to my senior year of high school, I only applied during this week. I applied to as many schools as I could to avoid that fee.”
Ana Scover, sophomore political science major, is from Alabama. She was not able to take advantage of the waiver.
“I was not familiar with fee waivers,” Scover said. “I think there is a period where a few Alabama schools remove fees, but I already knew I was leaving Alabama.”
Students interested in applying to USI can take advantage of the fee waive and submit their applications before the week concludes. For more information about College GO! Week or applying to USI, visit the learnmoreindiana.org and the university’s admissions page.
