In their first post season game in two years the University of Southern Indiana men jumped past Wisconsin-Parkside during the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, 92-64, Saturday night.
The well balanced Screaming Eagles had three players in the double digits and all but one player had points on the boarrd, including the secondary’s off the bench.
Mohamed Ntumba led the way with 16 points and 13 rebounds and was followed closely by Issac McClure who had 15 points.
“I told the guys we were going to play the bench early,” Head coach Rodney Watson said. “Everyone was going to get short rotations.”
The Eagles shined in their first post season game in two years and played with a weight lifted off their shoulders.
“Everybody had the same feeling,” Senior Jared Rehmel said. “We were relieved and could now focus on the rest of the season.”
USI showed depth by playing off the bench. Freshmen Taylor Wischmeir got 18 minutes of play and used it well scoring 10 points and 5 rebounds.
“I just wanted to go out there and play my role,” Wischmeir said.
Now that USI has cleared the first round they wait until Saturday to play again.
A break for the men isn’t exactly what Watson would like, “It’s always bad to get a break. We have to keep practices intense and stay sharp.”
