A winter storm clipper system packing strong winds and heavy amounts of precipitation is barreling towards the tristate region and university campus.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Office in Paducah, Ky. has issued a winter storm warning for Evansville and the entire USI campus in effect from 6 p.m. today until 12 p.m. Saturday.
Conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible, according to the NWS. Accumulating snow will begin late this afternoon into early Saturday as an approaching storm system could mix with rain and ice.
A transition of mostly snow is expected through tonight with the heaviest amounts north and west of the I-64 corridor. A transition to mainly rain for portions south of the Ohio River is expected Saturday morning as temperatures warm above freezing.
Housing and Residence Life urged residents on social media to “tune into your preferred media to stay updated on winter storm warning.” HRL said to plan accordingly and stay safe this weekend.
USI’s Campus, which rarely closes, shuttered operations for two days early last year due to winter weather.
