Goodbye Steak ‘n Shake, you will be missed

Brenna Wu

Yik Yak broke the news last week that the beloved west-side Steak ’n Shake closed.

I was heartbroken at the thought of one of the best college hangouts on this end of town was shutting down.

For those individuals who do not know, the west-side Steak ’n Shake closed down after it’s 20-year lease had expired and the land owners wanted to raise the cost to renew it to more than Steak ‘n Shake’s owner could afford.

Many students spent endless nights slurping down milkshakes and drowning fries in cheese sauce.

Personally, I would go to Steak ’n Shake whenever I needed a good pick-me-up in the form of an Oreo shake, or if I ever needed to ponder worldly thoughts with several of my friends.

I worry about where the next place will be for college students to hang out.

Steak ‘n Shake’s great prices, 24-hour service and natural college feeling will be hard to find somewhere else on the west side of Evansville, especially near USI.

The only place on the west side that still serves diners all day and all night is Denny’s – and Denny’s is no Steak ’n Shake.

I, along with several other people in the Evansville area, will greatly miss the ole’ Steak ’n Shake.

Hopefully college students will be able to find something to replace one of the most favorite restaurants in their hearts.

So long Steak ’n Shake. You will be greatly missed.
