The men’s basketball team scored 100 points in the second-straight game for the first time since the 2009-10 season.

Junior guard Jeril Taylor added the most points to their 111-101 win against Kentucky State University.

“My feeling is just try to get going early, that means if I have to make a good pass or just play make in general,” Taylor said, “just try to get going early so it can be better for me and the team.”

Taylor was joined by four other double-figure scorers, freshman guard Alex Stein with 20, senior forward George Edwards with 19, junior forward Terrence Tisdell with 14 and junior guard Bobo Drummond with 11.

USI also let an opponent score 100 points for the second-straight game, something which last happened during the 1996-97 season.

Tisdell said the team feels good, but the members know they need to focus defensively.

“We just want to work on the defensive end because we’re giving up too many points,” he said

Tisdell said the team will play teams in its conference that are bigger and better, meaning they can’t allow them to score easily.

“We gotta figure out a way to shut (scoring) down,” he said.

Tisdell said the group felt it started to gain control of the game during its 10 point lead in the first half, but Kentucky State took the lead back in the second.

“We got too complacent and started playing nonchalant,” he said.

Taylor said the team lost focus defensively and defense will be their main focus going into the next few practices.

Tisdell said the team is enjoying the win as it is now, but knows they need to come ready to play on Friday and Saturday.

“We just gotta pay more attention to detail,” Tisdell said. “I mean after watching this game, we just realized what we need to do.”
